Viola goes Letterboxing

Viola has had a very busy Halloween weekend! This post is nearly identical to the one posted on Danger Crafts Travelling Monster's group.  Of course it's from Viola's point of view and it's for her Momma, ljaecocker.  Here’s the post and some pics……

Hi Momma
I’ve been on a road trip here in Ontario. Momma Michelle even helped pack a bag for me. There was goodies to eat and a shawl made for me just in case it was cool outside.

When we got to the Bed and Breakfast in Orangeville, we got settled in and found we had the whole house to ourselves. Since I love board games, I found several I wanted to play with.
friday29b
I looked for some fellow travellers, but I think they may have been frightened of me because I was a monster. And they didn’t want to play with me.
friday29c
When it was time for bed, Momma Michelle found a bed for me to share with some other travellers. They told me that they came from a cabbage patch. I shared my tootsie pops with them and I got to sleep with them.

The next day we got up early for the letterboxing event. There’s a couple links that Momma Michelle added at the bottom to give some extra info about letterboxing. We had yogurt and berries and then rasinbread french toast for breakfast before heading out.
Since we needed clues for letterboxes, we stopped to ask a lady if she knew where to go. But I don’t think this lady knew anything about it, she only knew about books.
Sat30
The first trail we were on was strange because there was a lot of honking. I was told the honking came from geese on the near by lake. When we found our first box, it wasn’t a letterbox, it was a geocache box with toys in it. I stopped and played for a couple minutes.
Sat30a
We did find a group of boxes called the Monster series. It had the Boogie Man, Frankie, Dracula, Green Man, It’s Haunted and a Monster Box. I liked the last box but I was a little scared about what the monster in the box looked like. I had to keep an eye out for him just in case he pounced on me from behind the tree.
Sat30b
After the monster box, I needed to feel safe again. In Orangeville we found a yarn shop to go to before heading home. Momma Michelle let me play with all the soft yummy yarn on the way home. Here’s the nice yarn I got to play with.
Sat30c
Now I’m going to have a nap or two. And hope there’s no more monsters this week.
Miss you
Viola
XOXO

Makenzie says Hello from Texas

image title
Hi Mom! Amy took me for a ride in her SmartForTwo today! Boy is it small …but just right for a pocket sized monster like me!

My monster, Makenzie arrived two days ago, safe and sound in Texas!  Doggerham from Ravelry didn’t have her camera with her yesterday morning.  But I was told that Makenzie rode around in her robe pocket so she could look at the cats and dogs from a safe distance yesterday morning.  Then she stayed in Doggerham's purse checking out the office she works in.

I guess Makenzie will be going on some adventures this Saturday.  I can't wait to hear about them.

Viola Cocker The Travelling Monster

Hi.  My name is Viola Cocker and I come from Marysville, WA.   That's in the United States.  I've got a twin sister who is visiting NoKnitSherlock right now and I miss my sister very much.  And I've got a human Mom and Dad.  Then there's my human brothers and sisters too.
I've met two new monsters today.  Screaming Stan the VooDoo Bunny and Stink the Chunk Monster.  They seem a little weird to me.  I think they got ready for Halloween a little early.
I'll be visiting with my foster Mom for a couple of weeks here in Canada.  I don't know what I'll do or what I'll see.  I just hope that I have fun before going to my next foster family.

Makenzie's a Beach Bunny

Having enjoyed a turkey dinner at the cottage, I decided to take Makenzie down to the local beach.  I needed to wear off some of the food I had eaten and the beach was the best place to go.

The beach is on Lake Erie near Rondeau Provincal Park.  There wasn't any other sun bathers out that day.  The temperature was warm enough but not so warm as to go for a swim.

For today, Makenzie became a beach bunny on this warm October day.

Doors Open in St. Thomas

Doors Open Ontario 2010 continues to bring together communities across Ontario.

Throughout the province, there is a growing pride in our heritage. Communities boast of their commercial buildings, courthouses, places of worship, gardens, natural heritage and other heritage sites. From April to October each year, communities open the doors to some of our most intriguing and charming heritage sites. Admission is free. And the Ontario Heritage Trust – the province's lead heritage agency – invites you to experience these hidden heritage treasures first-hand.

The above blurb describes how anyone can visit buildings or homes that are not normally open to the public.  It's very interesting to view some of the buildings and see the architect that was put into them.

As for Makenzie, she spent the afternoon enjoying the Little Red Mitten at 86 Talbot Street in St. Thomas.

http://www.littleredmitten.ca/

The Little Red Mitten is housed in an 1842 building which was constructed following St. Thomas' first disastrous fire on Spetmeber 17, 1841.  The fire burned all buildings on both sides of Talbot Street from Stanley to King.  The original owner was Murdoch McKenzie whose family lived here from 1842-1856.  In 1986 it became the Talbot Trail Tea Room and in 2008 a knitting store.

Makenzie enjoyed the day visiting the people who toured the shop.  However, there was time to have some antics.
Here at the spinning wheels, it would seem that she's a little too small to be able to spin any fibre into yarn of any kind.

Here, there was a visit with one of the many inhabitants of the Little Red Mitten.  But it was short lived since Makenzie would prefer nose diving into the nearest stash of yarn.  And it didn't take long to find some to play with either.

Here she is trying to be Superman while playing with the Manos yarn hanging from the wall.  It's hard to believe  that Makenzie could behave if there wasn't nice yarn around.

Shopping Adventure

Since I needed to get out of the house and do some shopping, I thought I'd take Makenzie along for the ride.  Here's the first car ride for my monster.

Of course it wasn't the safest spot in the car for my monster.  But it does show that she was out driving around with me in the car.

As for my shopping list, I needed some groceries and a couple items from the local craft store.  With my list in hand we stopped off at the craft store first.

Here's Makenzie looking at the Speedball carving stamp block.  I won't say what it's used for right now because I'll most likely post something later about it.

Of course, it wouldn't be right without a monster jumping into one of the yarn bins.    Makenzie has a love for yarn.  Or at least yarn that can be used to make something that will keep you warm in the middle of winter.  Since I didn't want Makenzie mistaken for a toy, I quickly grabbed her and made my way up to the cashier to pay for the items I got.

Then it was off the the grocery store.  Most stores have the produce up front or near the front of the store.  Of course, Makenzie knew exactly where she wanted to be.  Right in the middle of the carrots.  Thankfully, nobody saw where she had been.  I'm sure if someone did see, I would have been ejected immediately from the store.  The really good part about the grocery store was that as soon as I got up to get in line behind another customer,  the cashier at the next lane opened up.  What luck!  That really doesn't happen.  So, I'm think Makenzie has a little bit of good luck somewhere.  Hopefully it will pass along to the next person.
